I voted "Who's the Daddy?", but I would say paternity & baby storylines in general. My God... no one seems to be a child of the person they grew up thinking was their parent. It's annoying. But I wouldn't say Love triangles are overdone. Sure, they are probably the most used, since they have been used heavily since the first soap opera ever aired. But really, love triangles are not just a soap thing. They use them for dramatic reasons in all media... movies, books... Love triangles are in the core of soaps. Sure, some can say all of these storylines are in the core... I have nothing against a good love triangle. But I am annoyed even when the paternity stroyline is good (although to me it's hard to do one these days..) |

"Relax nobody's having sex.... at least not yet"

I know. I hate when they retcon stuff from like 30 years ago. My main example is Jessica being Mitch'sa daughter on OLTL, I hope they change that one day. |

Every one of those mentioned is a good choice. I picked "back from the dead" For something that seems the least likely in the real world it happens all too often on soaps. It feels like cheating to me. |

Extremely tough choice, but I went with "Who's the daddy?" I didn't use to mind these storylines until they really started stretching the limits of believability. I think Ciara's paternity on Days was the final straw for me. We weren't talking days or weeks between Hope's liasons with the potential daddies, but MONTHS. |

Love triangles are the most common, but I don't think they are the most overdone. They are probably more justifiable given the nature of soaps and how they depend on romantic relationships. Who's the Daddy just makes less and less sense as time goes on, the culture is different, technology is different, you have to arrange so many hijinx and mix-ups to keep the secret a secret. It's ridiculous. At least love triangles can be justified on pure human indecision, which is always going to be a part of human nature. Who's the Daddy is just such a nonsense soap cliche, and it doesn't even have much to do with the greater cast logistics that Back From the Dead might. |

Its true that they cannot be avoided in a genre that focuses so much on romance and couples. Although I do still think they are overdone. |

I agree Mongo, I just think that the triangle can be done right and that's important to remember since it's probably essential to the genre in some frequency. Part of the reason at least I get fed up with triangles is because of how they're executed, not because I have a problem with all triangles bar none by definition. I'd love for soaps to come up with a variety of problems to put couples through besides the triangle (or whatever polygon of choice). Keeps things from getting trite and predictable and keeps the characters from seeming shallow and stupid. |
